Lost Property Tax in Bensenville

In the past there was talk, “Oh My God”, Bensenville is going to lose all the property tax from all the properties lost to the O’hare Modernization Project.  Our taxes are going to go up to compensate for this!  Well, lets stop and think about this.  If we chop off a piece of Bensenville, the town is now smaller.  So guess what, there are less services that need to be supplied.  Less streets for the police to patrol.  Less roadways to maintain.  Less public utilities to maintain.  Fewer fires to put out.  Less children in the schools.  It would seem then that we can operate on fewer tax dollars, and there should be absolutely no need to increase taxes for the properties that remain.  We are just a smaller town with smaller needs.  I would certainly hope that the police, fire, schools and village have adjusted their manpower accordingly.  I can only image that there was probably a need for a full time police officer just to patrol the townhouse area…not such a nice area (although at one time we had friends that lived there, we visited them and it was a very nice place).
